Deputy Director

Requirements

What You Will Do:

The position provides strategic direction and executive oversight for TRS.  Through close partnership with the Executive Director, the position is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of the agency through executives who are responsible for member benefit services; healthcare policy and administration; and support services which include financial, information technology, communications, information security, organizational excellence (human resources), and business administration functions. The role also oversees large, complex, cross-departmental projects that contribute to the agency’s mission, coordinates communication with the Board of Trustees, and represents the agency to members, government officials, the public, the press and other interested parties.   

What We Require: 

We require candidates to have a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in management, business, public administration or a related field.  Candidates also need fifteen years of full-time, directly related, progressively responsible experience in management with a minimum of six of those years at an executive level.  Eight years of experience leading or supervising the work of others is also required.

What We Would Prefer:

Our ideal candidate would have the following types of experience:
  • Working with governmental entities, public pension funds, or state investment boards
  • Master's degree in management, business, or public administration
  • Experience managing a public pension fund and/or crafting public pension or healthcare policy
  • Experience in public administration and management for a Texas state government entity.
  • Experience working with state or federal legislative entities.
