Chief Operating Officer/Deputy Director-Retirement
General
Reporting to the Executive Director, who is responsible for the overall leadership of the County's three defined-benefit retirement systems. These are the Employees', Police Officers, and Uniformed retirement systems.
Direct Reports
Leads the following teams:
- Membership Services
- Retiree Services
- Technology
- Accounting
- Investment Operations
Key Responsibilities
- Leads delivery of quality customer service to the systems' 30,000 employee and retiree members
- Develops and maintains close working relationships with other County agencies and the school district.
- Serves as a change agent in improving service to customers and streamlining operations.
- Manages projects and/or Agile sprints in an effort to improve the agency's data systems and financial management practices.
- Coordinates the collection of and use of key metrics and operating performance indicators.
- Presents to the three retirement systems' Boards of Trustees.

Requirements |
EDUCATION
- 4 year / Bachelor's Degree (Required)
- Master's Degree (Preferred)
- Any combination of education, experience, and training equivalent to the stated requirement may be considered.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- Proven track record of working with data to improve operations and transparency.
- Experience leading major change efforts, including but not limited to implementation of software systems.
- Successful experience leading projects, using standard project management practices and methods.
- Minimum of 7 years in a senior management role with relevant operational experience, preferably with a public pension system.
- Experience working with public entity or governmental Boards.
- Strong leadership and interpersonal relationship skills to organize, motivate, direct and empower staff to achieve goals; resolve conflict; and to foster innovation.
- Demonstrated proficiency with software to create reports, spreadsheets, and presentation materials.
- Proven experience communicating effectively; both in writing and verbally
