Member Education Representative

JOB SUMMARY

PERA's Member Education Division provides engaging learning experiences about PERAs defined benefit retirement plan, defined contribution plans, and other built-in benefit programs to PERA's members and affiliated employers.

This position understands and delivers complex retirement information, encourages retirement planning, and contributes to the development of presentation materials for diverse audiences through multiple digital channels, manages relationships with employer partners and assists with promotion and marketing efforts.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Develops, arranges, and delivers general and specialized education for members, benefit recipients, and affiliated employers via web and other e-based platforms, and occasional on-site presentations
  • Develops and maintains relationships with affiliated PERA employers, and actively seeks to expand educational outreach for members through their employer
  • Participates in planning and coordinating promotion and marketing efforts
  • Comprehends and communicates about PERAÂ’s benefit plans, insurance programs, retirement readiness, and financial security
  • Motivates membership to plan for retirement and helps them understand and utilize the resources available to them
  • Accurately and professionally conveys information in a clear, concise, and compelling manner to people of diverse social, economic, and educational backgrounds
  • Assimilates training best practices into the development, and facilitation of virtual and in-person instruction
  • Integrates adult learning theories and methodologies, behavioral finance concepts and technical expertise into the development and evaluation of presentation content and materials
  • Participates in a team environment to complete project work
  • Participates in training and educational opportunities for ongoing professional development
  • Responsible for meeting division metrics and standards as set forth by management
  • Acts with a sense of urgency and accountability to meet assigned deadlines
  • Maintains regular and prompt attendance in the workplace and at meeting locations
  • Attends and actively participates in staff meetings and team events
  • Recognizes issues or inefficiencies, works to find better solutions. Looks beyond the obvious and doesnÂ’t stop at the first/easiest resolution
  • Willingly puts in extra time and effort in key situations
  • Volunteers readily to assist when needed and consistently goes above and beyond what is normally required

Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS

  • A combination of related education and experience equivalent to three years; bachelorÂ’s degree preferred
  • Experience with in-person or virtual teaching, training, pension administration, retirement planning, or employee benefits preferred
  • Ability to write creative, compelling copy for promotions is a plus
  • Ability to use own skills and judgement to help make progress toward group goals
  • Ability to identify and consider all available alternatives before making decisions with an understanding of impact of decisions on others
  • Detail oriented and ability to focus in a variety of work environments
  • Polished speaker who can adapt to and interact with a variety of audiences
  • Effective relationship management skills and the ability to influence and inspire action
  • Ability to prioritize, organize, and coordinate projects with minimal supervision while working in a team environment
  • Ability to learn, interpret, and communicate state statutes, rules, and procedures in a manner easily understood by persons not familiar with the subject
  • Ability to work in a matrix reporting relationship balancing independence and flexibility with outstanding teamwork
  • Ability to understand and effectively explain financial concepts, basic investing, member benefits, and retirement pensions is desired
  • Ability to contribute to a positive, high performing team culture
  • Ability to work a varied schedule which can skew outside of normal business hours. (A rare weekend or travel is possible.)
  • Valid driverÂ’s license with excellent driving record preferred
  • Ability to handle several tasks or challenges at the same time
  • Ability to communicate clearly using a variety of communication formats
  • Ability to effectively use a personal computer and audio-visual equipment
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and presentation software

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Standard office environment with regular computer operation, and other office productivity machinery, such as a copy and printer machine
  • Occasional travel by car or plane as necessary for business purposes

HYBRID WORK OPTION

  • Opportunity to work from home up to two days per week. Eligibility dependent upon factors detailed in PERA's Work from Home Policy.
