Chief Benefits Officer
We are proud to partner with our client, the Kansas Public Employees Retirement System (KPERS or the “System”) to find their next Chief Benefits Officer.
 
KPERS provides guaranteed lifetime benefits to Kansas public servants when they retire, as well as disability and death benefits to protect them while they are still working.  Our membership includes people from all walks of life, in a variety of jobs, with one thing in common - serving Kansans. KPERS is embarking on a 5-year pension administration modernization project. The current Chief Benefits Officer is assuming a new role as Deputy Executive Director for Modernization for this initiative. The new Chief Benefits Officer will work closely with her/his predecessor during the life of this project.
The Chief Benefits Officer is responsible for the overall management of the Benefits and Member Services Division of the System to ensure that members receive accurate and timely benefit services and payments. The Chief Benefits Officer serves as a member of the System’s senior management team and reports directly to the Executive Director. The Chief Benefits Officer will assume a strategic role in the overall management of the System and will deal frequently with Trustees, members, employers, other stakeholders and the public.

Requirements EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
• Undergraduate degree in business management, public administration, or closely related field from an accredited college or university is required.
• Five or more years of progressively responsible experience managing customer service activities related to public retirement or benefits administration.
• Five or more years of professional staff supervisory experience.
• Certification as a Certified Employee Benefits Specialist (CEBS) or Certificate of Achievement in Public Plan Policy (CAPPP), or related certifications are highly preferred.
• Prior experience working with and presenting to a public Board of Trustees is highly preferred.
• The ability to present complex ideas, both orally and written to a broad range of constituents in a professional and courteous manner.
